How does the card work?
Travel and retail incentives can be accessed using the British Airways Credit Card.
Every transaction made with this card gives you the chance to accrue Avios, a special rewards currency that can be used for a variety of travel-related experiences.
Avios are earned for every R7.50 spent with the card. Alternatively, for every R5.00 spent on purchases bought only at British Airways, one Avios is awarded.
These Avios can be used to reserve travel, secure hotel stays, upgrade cabins, and even rent automobiles both domestically and abroad.
The card’s design aims to provide both elegant and simple travel experiences. It gives cardholders access to special advantages and rights, such as free admission to Bidvest Lounges at both domestic and international airports.
For overseas travel, basic travel insurance is provided, with the opportunity to purchase additional coverage.
The card comes with benefits including buyer protection, an extended warranty, and automatic lost card protection, in addition to up to 55 days of interest-free credit on certain transactions.
Online purchases can be made with confidence thanks to 3D-Secure and OTP security measures.
Notably, the card offers complete ATM functionality, including the ability to withdraw cash from ATMs all around the world, and there are no transaction fees for transactions made at till points.
With contactless payment features and chip and PIN technology, the card offers users more security and convenience.
The British Airways Credit Card has three different types of fees: an account cost, a monthly facility fee, and an introductory price. Fees for cash withdrawals differ depending on where and how the withdrawal is made. There is a 2.75% currency translation fee for purchases made overseas.

What are the benefits of the credit card?
- Earn Avios with every transaction you make. You may also accrue Avios more quickly by using your card only to make purchases at British Airways or any other participating location.
- Travel Rewards: Utilize your accrued Avios to make domestic and international reservations for flights, hotel stays, cabin upgrades, and vehicle rentals with British Airways.
- Lounge Access: For both domestic and international flights, take advantage of four complimentary passes to Bidvest Lounges at airports.
- Travel Insurance: For extra peace of mind, you can choose to augment your basic travel insurance coverage with top-up coverage for overseas travel.
- Credit with no interest: Take advantage of credit with no interest for up to 55 days on eligible products to better manage your spending.
What are the potential drawbacks of the card?
- Annual Fees: A fee may be assessed annually for the use of some credit cards. If you don’t use the card often enough to profit from the features or accrue enough Avios, the annual charge may be more advantageous.
- Interest Rates: Credit card interest rates can be very expensive if you carry a balance from month to month. This might make the rewards you’ve accrued worthless, particularly if your interest costs are outweighing the value of the Avios you’re earning.
- Fees for Foreign Transactions: If you use the card to make purchases in another currency, you can be charged extra for things like currency conversion or foreign transaction fees. These costs can mount up, particularly for visitors from abroad.
